I woke up this morning raring to write but spent most of it updating my character/synopsis form. This form is something I created about 15 years ago and I always use which basically gives me a who’s who of all the characters with looks, personalities, connected people, ages and even star-signs. When I say ‘created’ I’m sure I’m not the first writer on the planet to have this idea; it’s just something that really helps jog my memory down the line when I decide to give a character a hot new girlfriend and then I remember that he’s already married to a lovely chap named Richard.
The form also has a section for ‘places’ which came in handy when I made my characters go out on a bender till 3am at Jimmy’s when the form reminded me that Jimmy’s is the local hardware store. Lastly, it has a synopsis section and then a break-down of each chapter, or ‘sections’ as I like to call them (I break the book down into 10 sections which could either be 10 long chapters or 10 sections of any number of chapters). I’m really tempted to delete that last sentence because of how anal I sound but to deceive you into thinking otherwise would be plain wrong.
If anyone would like a form, feel free to contact me and I will send you one although I warn you, it’s not anything fancy and a five-year-old could probably make it but it has really helped me along the way and I don’t think I could write a book without it basically because my brain is a sieve. Not like one. It is. A sieve. Where was I?
Olympics. It’s only right I give that a mention.
Have a jolly good weekend.
